MADE YOU LOOK FILMS
Carlos J .Ramsey was certain, very early on in his life, that he would become a director, editor and
producer. His interest and devotion to the film industry began in high school as he spent all of his
extracurricular time in drama clubs, literary clubs and traveling to compete in literary events.
Carlos soon garnered the interest of a talent agent at one of the largest agencies in the world,
Endeavor, by winning dramatic interpretation competitions and several short film contests. Upon
his graduation, and in response to that agent’s advice, Carlos was anxious to move from the
small rural town of Thomson Georgia to Atlanta to attend art school and begin a career in film.
While at school, Carlos met and befriended Dwayne Beckless and together they founded Made
You Look Films in 2002. Already having several national awards and honors under his belt at the
tender age of 18, Carlos was given the nickname “Baby Hype” by his classmates in parity to
director Hype Williams. With his new moniker he quickly began building a reputation for his
company while still in college. Dwayne possessed an unparalleled work ethic and provided
many networking opportunities for the fledgling company . While in the process of building an
extensive portfolio, the duo was also active in the industry, gaining real-world experience on the
set of big budget features such as STROKE OF GENIUS and THE FIGHTING TEMPTATIONS,
and TV shows such as AMERICAN IDOL.
Carlos possesses a unique ability to combine sleek dynamic visuals with compelling storytelling
and propel both with music, this has made him a much sought after director and editor. The
Baby Hype name stuck with him throughout the years and gained relevance as Carlos worked on
several of Hype William’s videos and absorbed some of what had made Hype a renowned
director. It wasn’t long before Made You Look Films was producing it’s own projects. On many
of these projects, Made You Look Films was now hiring the same industry professionals that only
a few years earlier were it’s professors.
In 2003, Made You Look Films co-produced it’s first SAG union film “Veneer.” During filming,
Carlos met Pat “Parlay” Longworth through Karen Yelverton, a local actress involved with the
project. , Pat was invited to become a partner in the company and brought with him his extensive
knowledge of the entertainment industry and business connections. Pat became responsible for
the marketing of Made You Look Films, and is the company’s liaison to celebrities, and key
personnel in the hip-hop and R&B side of the entertainment industry. Pat has acted as executive
producer on several music videos and EPK’s. The company continued to build a diverse body of
work, as well as A-List crew resources when it came to production of any type. Made You Look
Films has always attracted higher caliber collaborations out of respect and superior production
standards. In early 2003, MYL Films was commissioned by the president of Atlanta based Fast
Forward Management and the Vice President of Atlanta’s Tree Sound Studios, Nina Baldridge, to
produce a music video for it’s hard rock artist Greedy White Citizens. The video was well
received in the industry and MYL films became sought after for music videos as well, for all
genres of music. This provided an even bigger link to the music industry connecting MYL films
with some of the country’s music producers and top audio engineers. The video itself caught the
attention of MTV and VH-1.
The years following, MYL Produced commercials for companies such as ARMANI EXCHANCE,
and SONY RECORDS, music videos for various artists including a sophmore effort for Greedy
White Citizens ” Addiction”, films, and marketing videos for companies such as CHAMPS
SPORTS. In 2005 Carlos wrote and directed a film titled “The Test”, executive producers on the
project were Carlos and Patrick Longworth. Filmed in Atlanta with Carlos’ signature style, it
features brands such as Audi, Apple Computer, Motorola, and shows a very unique perspective
of the city of Atlanta. The movie is lead by Sony recording artist/ Australian pop icon Selwyn
and features cameos from techno king Moby and MC Safire. The film was shot as a prequel to the
Spy Eyes movies trilogy. “The Test” has developed a cult like following with minimal
advertisement and has captured the interest of major distributors and networks. Carlos’ latest
film projects include “2 Saints of the Storm”, a twenty minute short film submitted to the
prestigious HBO Short film competition and “Maid in America”, an action short written, filmed,
and edited in 2 days for the 48 Hour film festival.
Aside from narrative film work, the company’s most successful avenue has been television. MYL
films has produced 9 episodes of “ CHAMPS SPORTS TV”, that have aired throughout the US
and Canada. MYL has also become a local production company of choice for AMERICAN IDOL,
BET ACCESS GRANTED, BET MUSIC MAKERS, and ELEMI-DATE. TV pilots for TO
EXTREMES, an episodic Sci-Fi series, URBAN FLAVOR, a hip-hop cooking show, ALMOST
FAMOUS a music based reality show and THE MASTER HUNTER, a hunting reality show
starring SURVIVOR THAILAND winner Brian Heidick, have all been completed and are
currently being shopped to networks. MYL Films is also collaborating with TRACY BAKER
SIMMONS and WANDA SHELLY, the producers of the successful “Being Bobby Brown” TV
series on various other TV concepts.
